Long Weekend and Cloverfield

Winter in SoCal is not really winter. I kid you not. 2 weeks ago we were having spring-like season and then wham! it gets really cold. Not that kind of cold where you'l get snow though. Its the other kind that comes with the rain. The temp now is around 58F or 13 C and it will go down much lower later at night.

Anyways, we decided to watch the Cloverfield last sunday. Personally, I found it excrutiatingly painful to watch. Yup. I didn like it at all. Now, before anybody starts jumping the gun on me, let me remind you again that this is MY own personal opinion. Other people might find it interesting and im not 1 of them. Im sure most of you remember the movie The Blair Witch Project? Remember that the whole movie was taken using the camcorder? Well, the same goes to Cloverfield. The first 25min of the movie was nothing else but the characters filming their morning and day out and continued with the planning of the farewell party.

Im not going to tell you the whole story but here are among the things that just dont make sense to me even for a hollywood movie standard:

1) if you were being chased/attacked/mauled by aliens/animal/something, would you still be carrying ur camera?

2) after no.1 above, can you still climb up and down 59floors (!) to help a girl tht your friend likes/loves even after she came to the party with another guy and you didn even know if shes alive?

3) hell after no. 1 would you still wanna do no. 2 rather than straight to the evacuation place??

4) the said girl was found with a re-bar sticking out of her chess and after much difficulty in freeing her fr it and getting her out of the building (bleeding and all), she could suddenly run like she was not even hurt.

5) the heli that they were in crashed. the pilot who was wearing the helmet died but ALL 3 of them miraculously survived.

So there you go, thats my take on the movie. If you like the movie, do share why ok?

On another note, both dvds that arrived in the mail from blockbuster.com turned out to be un-playable. We thought our player was bad but luckily we still have another movie with us so we know for sure that it was those dvds rather than the player. ;)

Thanks for the review.I was somewhat intrigued by the previews on TV until I read it was about a monster. WTF?? You saved me some $..thanks.
The Blair Witch project was a total, unmitigated disaster. Worse part is I dragged Jerry along and had to listen to his loud sighing and whining thru the movie:)))Serves me right, though..

Salam Princess,

Hi Kak Farina,

I saw the trailer the other day while watching 'The Game Plan', and I think the first thing I thought was 'ala, takkan USA/New York kena lagi?'...

Anyway, I rarely watch shows like this, cos I kenot tahan the volume...My hands were over my ears nearly 90% of the time for LOTR (all three)! Hehe...

And no, I won't do Number 1, which you described...I won't even know where my camera is! ;p

Envy, yes tht wud be the best. no need to spend too much moolah on this one. if u havent seen enchanted, id suggest u watch tht too. its good for mother-daughters!

CA, alamak. nak tunggu keluar kat astro gamaknya 2 tahun lagilah. hehe. well, for u id suggest the kingdom. ;)

Blueberyy oi, itulahnya case tak dengar firasat. kitorang memang dah agak mesti merapu but went against firasat. padan muka i! lol.

Thank you for the review, Farina. I am not a movie-buff, so did not know about it and now will make sure NOT to watch it. :)

The quality of movies seem to be deteriorating or I may have become more critical. I saw the Bourne whatever (latest in the series) last weekend and found it so far-fetched!

*tergelak baca Farina's review*

Haha! What do you expect? It's a JJ Abrams's yarn after all. I used to get super frustrated when I watched Alias last time. Started out so cool and classy. Then it became silly and ridiculous.

Hi Farina

Thanks for the review. That saves my money and I can put it towards better movies. I rent from Netflix. Cloverfield sounds like typical Hollywood BS.

You know, I find it hilarious (and little fed up actually) to watch movies where a thousand machine guns at close range cannot get the good guy (all because he is running zig zag) but one fatal bullet from an inferior firearm can kill the criminal from so far away. :)

i'd rather watch repeats of Heartbreak kids a thousand times than to even spend a penny on a blair witch-like movie.

dropping by to say hiiii!! hihi. :D

Rita, i didnt like the 3rd bourne either. if u havent seen resident evil, i suggest u do. so far al 3 of them are good.

Munira, now memang rasa funny but masa dlm theater tu, tension sgt tau. lol. p.s. im not a fan of alias either. ;)

JT, wer w blockbuster but now im gonna look at netflix since bb keeps increasing the rate and too many times the quality is worst then the ciplak or wont play at all! grrr..

Kerp, i sebenarnya enjoyed blair-witch project. hehe.

BM, lamanya menghilangkan diri!

Princess,

I just got to know early this morning, our bro, Mat Salo, went to see Cloverfield and came out nearling puking out of motion sickness!

Salt N Turmeric said...

CA, did he really? apparently a lot of ppl had tht problem too and the theater have been asked to put up warnings similar to those seen at the roller coater rides. poor guy.

Mat Salo said...

PJ.. now I know where this 'wild' allegations about 'matsalo puking' came about :)

It's true, damn, that movie made feel more than nauseous! But what do you expect from producer JJ Abrams --the guy who gave us "Lost", there's nothing about the Big Picture. We now nuts about the monster, how it got there or where it came from. Something like Lost, I suppose. JJ just wants us to care for the characters, but you're right the story is a bit silly. Even my 2 boys (13 and 6) weren't impressed. But ironically they didn't feel 'sick'. Oh right, they're from the PS2 Generation . . .

cakapaje said...

Alamak! Termistake lah! But to put matter in perspective, bro MS did not puke, but nearly did. I can understand that because a very long time ago, I went to see a Malay movie 'detik 12 malam'. I came out halfway and really did nearly puke!

Salt N Turmeric said...

MS, jgn marah. nanti kena jual. hehe. dont fret bro. ur not the only one. lotsa ppl here feel sick too. literally. its funny tht i didn feel anything since id be the type who wud. maybe i was too busy hating the movie. lol.

CA, detik 12 mlm? never heard of it. wht year was tht movie?
