My friend S called yesterday informing me that Malaysian shuttler is in the final against China around 3am our time. I was of course very happy to hear the news. It has been a long long time since our shuttlers win a medal in the Olympic. So Michael set the alarm for 3am and i actually woke up at 3am hoping to watch the game. Did I get to watch it? NO!!! I waited until 4am and the only games that I got to watch were the women wrestling and table tennis. I guess the live telecast was on the paid channel which we dont subscribe to. Sigh. How I wish I was back home where I am sure they would show it on tv. Live.
Since I didnt get to watch the game, the first thing I did when I woke up this morning was to check online to see the result. Apparently we got the silver medal which is still ok. I am just happy that our player got to the final. Gold medal would be the ultimate but silver is not too shabby either when it comes to the Olympic. Hooray for Lee Chong Wei! A silver medal and RM300k is just sweet! ;)
Now, can someone please let me know if this is our first Olympic medal? And what other events are we participating in?

I'm not sure, but I think this is our first Olympic medal. I watched the match - it was harrowing. I think Chong Wei was psyched out by Lin Dan. Can't blame him. Lin Dan was just too strong and fast and he struck like a serpent! They've been rivals in badminton, I heard. I am proud of Chong Wei nonetheless. It'd be nice to get the gold, but the silver medal is good enough for the effort he's put in. Chong Wei's the first Malaysian to reach the finals in men's single for badminton. At least it's not a meaningless "First Malaysian for something" :)
We had a silver medal in 1984 ( I think) for badminton men's double and a bronze from Rashid Sidek in 1996 (Atlanta). This would be our third medal. I watched the match live online on NBC Olympics this morning =)
Oh I thought you were asking if this is our first medal for this year's Olympics :)
Lin Dan had the advantage of homeground and took full advantage of the numerous mistakes that Chong Wei kept on repeating.
Luckily you didn't sacrifice your sleep to watch a game that was over in 40 minutes!
that was the first and definitely the last medal for malaysia. what sickens me is when sports like BMX are being included in olympics, proper sports like squash and bowling are not considered as olympic sports. i mean, what the hell? these are games played globally while BMX in categorised under extreme sport. the olympics committee sucks ass i tell ya.
Munira, yup i was asking abt this year's game. like u said, im proud for the effort tht he puts in. it cant be easy playing at your opponent's turf whc happens to be the most populated country on earth. hehe.
Becky, thanks for the info. i cant even remember wht game did the sidek bros won. U lucky girl. u got to watch the game.
Julie, i wouldnt have mind spending 40min of my time to watch a Malaysian competing at an intl game arena. it would be my pleasure. Im sure Chong Wei put his best if not he wouldn have been in the final. ;)
Kerp, thanks for the info. I didn even know they took out squash and bowling fr the list and put in bmx. well, at least now we can say tht other ppl do stupid things too. lol.
I think everybody has been putting too much pressure on Chong Wei lah. Besides that, Lin Dan was in top form during the finals. Serba-serbi menjadi. I'm still proud of Chong Wei nevertheless. At least he got the silver medal kan?
i'm proud of chong wei. doesnt matter lah tak dapat gold pun. =)
Pi, memang betul. Ppl really should cut him some slack and be happy that he gave us a medal at all.
Nikolaevna, any medal is good to me. ;)
Minah,

It was a tough fight. me and hubby woke up early on watch it live on the internet. Glad we were able to see it. He played his best. Lin Dan was really good. Nevertheless he did Msia proud and whatever, did you know he got a Datukship from Penang. Just saw the news today from the Star online!

Chong Wei did well....Lin Dan was on form...the moment he walked on the court can see the body language already.
Top marks for Chong Wei in reaching the final..especially he nearly lost in the semis.
